Great Things Are Happening in Bel Air!
Recently redesignated for another ten years by the Maryland State Arts Council, the Bel Air Arts & Entertainment District has seen tremendous growth since its initial designation in 2011. Plus, Bel Air gets more beautiful with each new mural or sculpture added to its growing public art collection.
supportive and engaged community and many local partners who promote our artists and continue to help us build a vibrant arts district in Bel Air.”
Expanding on its popular Art Walk, the A&E District recently launched a new Public Art Tour using an interactive map that includes images and descriptions of each piece to bring Bel Air’s public art collection to life. With the map as a guide, residents and visitors are encouraged to visit thirty-eight pieces of public art throughout Bel Air. The Public Art Tour begins with a two-mile, self-guided walk through downtown featuring over twenty sculptures and murals. It continues with an additional fifteen pieces accessible within a short drive around Bel Air. Public art is a great addition to Bel Air as it serves to create a unique community identity, reduces stress and contributes to our overall well-being.
“Bel Air has a beautiful collection of public art and we wanted to give the community a new way to see and learn about the pieces and the artists who created them,” stated Robertson.
The new Public Art Tour was completed in partnership with the Bel Air Cultural Arts Commission who has funded a number of pieces and has set up guidelines to sponsor property owners who may want to add public art to their buildings.
