Registration is now open for the fall 2026 of “The Woods in Your Backyard” online course from the University of Maryland Extension’s Woodland Stewardship Education program. Our self-directed, non-credit course runs for 10 weeks from August 31 to November 9, 2026. The course will help landowners of small parcels of land (1-10 acres) convert lawn to natural areas and enhance the management of existing natural areas. It features a hands-on learning approach to help participants develop and implement a plan for their property, providing strategies that improve the stewardship of their property for personal enjoyment and environmental quality. Activities include how to map habitat areas, understand basic ecological principles about woodland and wildlife, choose and implement a few habitat management projects, and how to set a timetable and record your progress. Online discussion groups allow participants to interact with others taking the course. A certificate of completion is awarded when all assignments are completed.

Course Cost: $120 per person, which includes the 108-page “Woods in Your Backyard” guide, workbook, and a tree identification guide. The course is limited to 25 participants, so sign up now! Have you always wanted to learn outdoor survival skills but felt intimidated or didn’t know where to start? This introductory class is designed specifically for adults with zero prior outdoor experience.

An acting class for kids and teens grade 6-12. Ghosts, Skulls, and Murder Galore! Students will explore simplified selections from some of Shakespeare’s spookiest plays through short scenes, monologues, and developmentally appropriate acting activities.

In this playful and supportive class, students will strengthen acting, character development, vocal expression, movement, and staging skills while learning how to make Shakespeare’s language clear, expressive, and fun to perform.

Missy Leppo, volunteer instructor, has created a great mix of fun and entertaining dances set to bluegrass, country, rock and pop music. Clogging lessons are open to youth (ages 8 and above) and adults.

First lesson is FREE. If you choose to continue, registration will be $40 for 10 weeks, $55 for 20 weeks and $70 for 30 weeks. There is no need to purchase special shoes for beginner lessons. Shoes or sneakers with a smooth sole/worn tread are best.

Always wanted to dance like you’re in a Broadway show? This fun, supportive class is designed for adults of all experience levels – especially beginners! Learn the basics of musical theater dance while moving to favorite Broadway hits from shows like Chicago, Mamma Mia!, and Hairspray. Each week, you’ll build confidence, coordination, and stage presence while exploring storytelling through movement.

Ages 16-adult. $60.

For decades, Harford County riders have left their mark on local trails, tracks, and hillsides. This exhibit celebrates the machines, moments, and memories that shaped a racing tradition passed down through generations. For more information, visit website. This virtual parent group is hosted by Aspire Living and Learning, for parents of children ages 3–5 and is limited to 5 families.

About the Group: Emotion regulation in the preschool years is an area many children are working on developing. This age is characterized by increasingly independent thoughts and ideas, and learning to communicate these while managing emotions can be a very difficult balance.

Our group will focus on developmentally appropriate and supportive strategies for building confidence and independence in young children, while simultaneously providing clear boundaries and limits in supportive ways.

Join us on a quest to discover all that parks have to offer! We will research a different national park each week. Participants will learn their significance and discover what we can apply locally, as we hike and explore the trails and terrain of Eden Mill. We will also focus on preparedness and safety, so students are ready to explore any wilderness!

Want to help feed our hungry critters? Come to our Family Feed program that lets you behind the scenes and help the naturalist feed the animals! Registration required at least 24 hours ahead.

“Hamilton: An American Musical” inspires interest in the American Revolution with catchy lyrics and irresistible hip-hop beats. What is fact and what is fiction? This program will examine “Hamilton” and why it matters when history and fiction collide. Presented by Amanda Hughes from the State Library Resource Center.

The Ramble Festival is a three-day vibe-centric music festival focused on good people sharing great music and creating terrific times. Named as one of Harford County’s best events, the MD State BBQ Bash is a barbecue themed street festival featuring the Maryland State BBQ Championship, with more than 25 competition teams from the Mid-Atlantic area and beyond competing for cash prizes and the chance to compete in the annual Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue in Lynchburg, TN and The American Royal in Kansas City, MO.

In addition, 40 amateur teams will compete in the MD State BBQ Bash Tailgate Challenge to see who has the best ribs and chicken while competing for cash, prizes, and bragging rights. For more than 20 years, the MD State BBQ Bash has grown to be one of the largest, most fun, and most anticipated events of the year in Downtown Bel Air. America turns 250 in 2026, and we cut our maze to match.

Maple Border Farm has been family owned and worked by the same family since 1917. This year our 6+ acre corn maze is designed in honor of America’s 250th birthday – the Semiquincentennial – and it anchors a season running Friday, September 18 through Saturday, October 31.

The big maze isn’t the whole farm. A separate kiddie maze is scaled for younger children, so families with little ones aren’t navigating six acres of corn. New for 2026, we planted our very first pumpkin patch. Our two-acre zinnia field is in bloom through the early weeks of the season.

Also here: friendly farm animals, wagon rides out through the fields, duck races, a corn pool, lawn games, and campfires once the sun goes down.

Admission is $15 per person and it’s good any day we’re open – come once or come back through the season. Children 2 and under are FREE.

Join our Park Naturalists in collecting data from Eden Mill’s very own Eel Ladder! You will collect eels from the ladder, weigh and document, and release them upstream! Learn about why these fascinating animals are considered a scientific mystery!

The Bel Air Farmers’ Market is a producer-only market where everything sold is grown, raised or made by our over 60 local vendors from the Harford County Maryland area.

Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day by joining us to see the fall migrants heading south. No longer decked out in the spring breeding plumage, some of these species are challenging to identify, but the migration offers a good chance to see a nice variety of species. We will begin at the parking lot at 8:30am at the Lock House Museum. The trails may be muddy so proper footwear is recommended.

Mollee Kruger, poet, journalist, and memorialist, was born in Bel Air on March 28, 1929. She lived with her family over their shoe store on Main Street. Her book, The Cobbler’s Last, recounts her life here during the Great Depression and World War II. While still in high school, Mollee wrote for one of the local newspapers, receiving the grand sum of five cents per column inch for her copy. After graduating from the University of Maryland, Mollee became an internationally recognized, award-winning writer noted for her humor and wisdom, writing TV and radio scripts, several poetry collections, essays, and columns for the Washington Post, the Baltimore Sun, and numerous other publications. Her career as a novelist didn’t begin until she was 86. Since then, she has published eleven more books.

The FREE, family friendly event makes it easy for people to give back, connect with local nonprofits, and learn more about important issues affecting people in Harford County. Harford Helps, a community initiative managed by nonprofit organization Technology 4 Causes, connects people with opportunities to donate, volunteer, and find help throughout Harford County.

A central feature of Community Giving Day is a large community donation drive. Ten local nonprofits will collect needed items in one convenient location, giving attendees the opportunity to donate to multiple organizations at one time. Collection needs include nonperishable food, school supplies, coats and cold weather gear, baby items, pet supplies, sporting equipment, cleaning supplies, sensory items, small furniture, housewares, and more.

Community Giving Day will offer much more than just a donation collection. In Nonprofit Hall, attendees can meet other nonprofits learn about their mission, donation needs, volunteer opportunities, and ways to get involved.

The event will also feature Community Impact Workshops focused on important issues affecting people in Harford County. Families can introduce children to the joy of giving through hands on activities in the Family Giving Zone, and food trucks will be onsite for lunch and sweet treats to enjoy.

Ceramic trees are a classic Christmas decoration, and these are just like the ones that have been made since the 70’s! Choose from a variety of sizes and glaze finishes. Trees are fun and easy to paint and will look beautiful in your home! We have a variety of trees to choose from and an endless combination of glazes. Mother of pearl will be available for an extra cost.

Cost of this workshop is $5 plus the cost of the tree. Trees start at $55 for our smallest tree, which includes tree, light kit and lights, and glaze. The three largest sized trees may be shared (two people can paint). If you are planning on sharing a tree, each person still needs a $5 event ticket. Ceramic trees are a classic Christmas decoration, and these are just like the ones that have been made since the 70’s! Choose from a variety of sizes and glaze finishes. Trees are fun and easy to paint and will look beautiful in your home! We have a variety of trees to choose from and an endless combination of glazes. Mother of pearl will be available for an extra cost.

Cost of this workshop is $5 plus the cost of the tree. Trees start at $55 for our smallest tree, which includes tree, light kit and lights, and glaze. The three largest sized trees may be shared (two people can paint). If you are planning on sharing a tree, each person still needs a $5 event ticket. Christmas goodies will be served, but feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks as well!

Trained volunteers contribute to community science through water quality and physical stream monitoring at the Leight Park stream restoration site. Every other Saturday, volunteers will hike through the beautiful forested trails to access the newly restored stream and witness ecological improvements as the project matures.

The Historical Society is pleased to announce this year’s guest speaker for the George W. Archer Lecture: author and State Archives Senior Archivist Owen Laurie, who will relate the story behind his new book about the Maryland 400.

For more than 10 years, staff members at the Maryland State Archives have researched the soldiers who served in the Maryland 400. They have written and posted online biographies of all the known members of the unit. Now that the work has been published as a book, this is the first time that every Maryland soldier’s story has been told, including some soldiers from Harford County!

In August 1776, Maryland’s soldiers saved the Continental Army at the Battle of Brooklyn, earning the nickname “Maryland 400.” They went on to fight in nearly every major battle of the War, gaining renown for their courage and discipline. Their story has never been fully recognized. This is a unique opportunity to hear these stories and learn of the incredible bravery of these Marylanders and their role in changing the world. “There Was A Time” will encompass the growth and choral artistry that have developed over the last 20 years. The concert will include all five of the choirs performing iconic works by American composers. The second half will present a world premiere of Crossing Over – an American Requiem by Dr. Daniel McDavitt, Director of Music at the Coast Guard Academy. For more than three decades, this festive fundraiser for Kennedy Krieger has dazzled the community with decorated trees, holiday vendors, entertainment, and more.

With nearly 900 hand-decorated trees, wreaths, and gingerbread houses, attendees can wander through a forest of creativity and community before checking off some holiday shopping at the vendor village, featuring local artisans and small business owners. Kids can enjoy games and rides before lining up to grab a picture with Santa.

November 27 at 10am, Santa starts the fun with his arrival as doors open. Saturday, November 28 is Education and Healthcare Professionals Day. Anyone that shows a valid education or healthcare badge at the box office will receive half-price general admission tickets. Also, on Saturday, November 28 from 7-10pm, Tinsel on Tap, a 21+ holiday pop-up party will be back for a second year. This festive, adult-only celebration will feature signature cocktails, beer and wine, as well as holiday trivia, a DJ, dancing, and a festive fashion contest!

Havre de Grace kicks off the holiday season with our 2026 Holly Jolly Parade and Tree Lighting! The parade starts at Union Avenue at St. John Street, continues down St. John, to Washington Street and ends at Congress Avenue.

After the parade, Santa Claus will help Mayor Martin light the tree live on stage at the corner of Washington, St John and Green Streets.

For more than half a century, the Candlelight Tour has been a beloved holiday tradition, inviting visitors to step inside beautifully decorated historic homes and special locations throughout Havre de Grace. It’s also one of the Lock House Museum’s most important annual fundraisers.

Stayin’ Alive offers to their audience the songs and sights of a full Bee Gees playlist, singing blockbusters such as “Night Fever,” “Jive Talkin’,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” “You Should Be Dancing,” “Nightson Broadway” and “Stayin’” Alive”. In addition, they perform softer poetic ballads such as “I Started a Joke,” Massachusetts,” “Fanny Be Tender,” “Words” and “To Love Somebody” among other great hits.

Join us for our Farmstead Market where local artisans, farmers, chefs, craftsmen, and small business owners can come together and create a one-stop market. Picture a mini farmer’s market but with a little extra variety.

Maison Intimate Catering will be offering their Sunday Supper meals to fill your bellies as you grab a chair and enjoy the views of grazing animals and open fields.

I’ll be pulling a few willing livestock participants up out of their fields and offering a little petting zoo for those that want to see some of the sheep, calves, chickens, and a pony, up close and in person. This is especially great if you have children or grandchildren.

It’ll be a peaceful afternoon on the farm. Rain or shine, we’ll just move inside.
